The Most Distant Structure of Galaxies Known: a Protocluster at Z = 4.1
Imaging and spectroscopy with the Very Large Telescope have revealed 20 Lyα emitters within a projected distance of 1.3 Mpc and 600 km s −1 of the luminous radio galaxy TN J1338–1942 at z = 4.1. Compared to the field density of Lyα emitters, this implies an overdensity on the order of 15. The structure has a projected size of at least 2.7 Mpc × 1.8 Mpc and a velocity dispersion of 325 km s −1 ,...
متن کاملInternal Secular Evolution in Disk Galaxies: The Growth of Pseudobulges
Observational and theoretical evidence that internal, slow (“secular”) evolution reshapes galaxy disks is reviewed in Kormendy & Kennicutt (2004). This update has three aims. First, I emphasize that this evolution is very general – it is as fundamental to the evolution of galaxy disks as (e. g.) core collapse is to globular clusters, as the production of hot Jupiters is to the evolution of prot...
متن کاملthe role of thematic structure in comprehending spoken language
in fact this study is concerned with the relationship between the variation in thematice structure and the comprehension of spoken language. so the study focused on the following questions: 1. is there any relationship between thematic structure and the comprehension of spoken language? 2. which of the themes would have greated thematic force and be easier for the subjects to comprehend? accord...
15 صفحه اولLarge - scale structure of Lyman break galaxies around a radio galaxy protocluster at z ∼ 4 ⋆
We present broad-band imaging with the Subaru Telescope of a 25 ′ ×25 ′ field surrounding the radio galaxy TN J1338– 1942 at redshift z = 4.1. The field contains excesses of Lyman-α emitters (LAEs) and Lyman break galaxies (LBGs) identified with a protocluster surrounding the radio galaxy. Our new wide-field images provide information about the boundary of the protocluster and its surroundings....
متن کاملThe Cosmological Evolution of the Environments of Powerful Radio Galaxies
We present the results from the analysis of 26 extragalactic radio sources of type FRII which were observed with the VLA at 5 GHz and around the 1.4 GHz band. The sources were selected to have redshifts in the range 0.3 < z < 1.3, radio powers between 6.9×10WHz < P151MHz < 1.3×10 WHz and angular size θ ≥ 10. We found that the depolarisation and the rms variations in the rotation measure increas...
